“Sun Rises” Highlights 1《Piano Concert at State House》

A piano concert by internationally acclaimed Japanese composer-pianist Mr. HIRAI Motoki was held at the State House in Réduit on Thursday, 25th August 2022.
The event was held in the presence of H.E. Mr. Prithvirajsing Roopun GCSK, President of the Republic of Mauritius, H.E. Mr. Marie Cyril Eddy Boissezon, the vice president of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr. KAWAGUCHI Shuichiro, Ambassador of Japan to Mauritius, as well as dignitaries from the Government of Mauritius and the Diplomatic Corps.
Mr. HIRAI performed classical masterpieces by composers including J.S.Bach, Mozart, Schumann and Chopin as well as a Mauritius premiere of his own contemporary compositions including ‘Scenes from a Native Land’ (Fantasie-Japonaise). In addition, he improvised two pieces inspired by the scenes around the State House, in particular the beautiful sunset, which were warmly received by the audience.
After the piano performance, guests were served with a selection of Japanese cuisine prepared by the Ambassador KAWAGUCHI Shuichiro, alongside a tasting of Japanese sake, beer and whiskey.
The concert marks the start of “Sun Rises”, co-hosted by the State House and the Embassy of Japan in Mauritius, which includes piano concerts by Mr. HIRAI, and the exhibition of Hangiga woodblock prints by Mr. NAKAJIMA Tsuzen held at the Caudan Arts Centre until Tuesday, 6th September 2022.
The “Sun Rises” is co-organized by MOL (Mauritius) Ltd, Toyota (Mauritius) Ltd, ABC Automobile, Sugar Beach Resort, Purple Blue Medical Ltd and JKalachand.
