On Thursday 8 December, Ambassador KAWAGUCHI attended the ceremony to mark the partnership between the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the Government of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at the Victoria Hospital. Dr the Hon Kailesh JAGUTPAL, Minister of Health and Wellness, Ms Ahunna EZIAKONWA, the Regional Director of the UNDP and Ms Amanda SERUMAGA, Resident Representative of UNDP Mauritius, were also present at the ceremony.
The projects were funded by the Government of Japan.
In his address, the Ambassador stressed that Mauritius has a good health care system, however, as the country has the vulnerability as a small island state, Japan continues to contribute in their health sector.
In this ceremony, the autoclave which has been installed to the hospital to address the problem of hazardous healthcare wastes was launched. Also the Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), which was introduced in October 2021, has been extended to improve health services both in promptness and efficiency in Mauritius.
