Handing Over Ceremony of GGP/KUSANONE: “The Project for Bus Procurement for People with Disabilities in Poste de Flacq”

On Wednesday 23rd August, 2023, the handover ceremony of the two buses through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) was held at Centre de Vivre, the special education needs (SEN) school run by the Association des Malades et Handicapés de l’Est, Poste de Flacq. Hon. Mr. Sudheer MAUDHOO, Minister of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, H.E. Mr. KAWAGUCHI Shuichiro, Ambassador of Japan to Mauritius, Mrs. Jennifer JACQUES, President of Association des Malades et Handicapés de l’Est, the representatives from Toyota Mauritius, other members of the NGO, the Embassy of Japan and other relevant stakeholders were present at the ceremony.
 
Association des Malades et Handicapés de l’Est runs a special educational needs school and day care centre and also provides home visiting services to the people bedridden. Ensuring access to education and other supports is crucial for the beneficiaries and transport is the essential part of it.
 
Through “The Project for Bus Procurement for People with Disabilities in Poste de Flacq” with the grant of 45,034 euros (approximately 2.2 million rupees), the NGO acquired with two 15 seater buses. Upon completion of the project, the NGO will be able to provide the beneficiaries with not only free and safe transportation but also the home visit services.
