On 18 September 2023, the handover ceremony of the grant contract for the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) was held at the main office of the Mauritius Family Planning and Welfare Association (MFPWA). H.E. Mr. KAWAGUCHI Shuichiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Mr. Poubarlanaden Appavoo, chairman of MFPWA received H.E. Mr. Marie Cyril Eddy Boissezon, the Vice President of the Republic of Mauritius, Hon. Dr. Marie Christiane Dorine Chukowry, Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, the representatives from Toyota Mauritius and Konica Minolta, other members of MFPWA, and other relevant stakeholders at the ceremony.
The activities of MFPWA include gynecological and abdomen screenings, awareness campaigns, and health and welfare programs at their clinic and through community visits. The organisation received two ultrasound machines through GGP in 2007 which have been active for screenings until today. However, due to aging equipment, it was getting difficult to provide accurate diagnosis.
Through “the Project for Provision of Ultrasound Machines for Gynecological and Abdomen Screening and Vehicle” with the grant of 69,641 euros (approximately 3.1 million rupees), the organisation acquired the following Japanese-manufactured products: two ultrasound machines (Konica Minolta) and one vehicle (Toyota). Upon completion of the project, the organisation will be able to provide gynecological and abdomen screening services to more people. It is also expected to contribute to early detection of cancer and improvement in public health.
