Local Media Press Tour on Japan's Technical Cooperation (25 March 2024)

On 25 March, the Embassy organised a press tour for Mauritian media with attendance of eight journalists and photographers from four companies. The purpose of the press tour was to increase media coverage opportunities of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) and to strengthen the information dissemination to the people of Mauritius.
The press members visited the Japan’s technical cooperation project for “Enhancement of Institutional Capacity on Oil Spill Response.”
The project is being implemented as a follow-up to the WAKASHIO oil spill incident occurred in August 2020. The JICA experts and the officials from the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change gave an overview of the project. Then demonstration exercises including the boom deployment, the handmade skimmer operation and the throwing and collecting of buoys for tidal current surveys.
After the press tour, the media reported on Japan's Official Development Assistance efforts.
