On 2 September 2024, the inauguration ceremony of the Geotechnical and Material Testing Laboratory was held at the Ministry of National Infrastructure and Community Development in Phoenix, in the presence of Mr. KAN Masahiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mauritius and the Hon. Mr. Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development.
In December 2020, Japan provided grant assistance of 600 million Japanese Yen to reinforce disaster prevention capacity in Mauritius through the “Economic and Social Development Programme.” The Geotechnical and Material Testing Laboratory is equipped with Japanese machines including advanced soil testing devices under the Programme.
