On 30 September, Ambassador KAN paid a courtesy call on Fukushima Prefectural Governor UCHIBORI Masao and Fukushima City Mayor KOBATA Hiroshi in Fukushima, and exchanged views on international exchange between local governments in Mauritius and Japan.
The Ambassador also discussed the potential for contributing to the overseas expansion of local public bodies and regional development, as well as the promotion of tourism, investment, the export of local products, the establishment of sister city relationships, student exchange, as well as exchange in the fishing industry.
Mauritius is an important partner in the Indo-Pacific region that shares fundamental values with Japan, such as the rule of law and democracy. At the same time, the Ambassador promoted Mauritius as full of attractive features such as its beautiful natural environment, its strategic importance as a hub connecting Asia and Africa, and its rapidly growing economic environment.
