2024/10/11

On 11 October, Ambassador KAN held an exchange of opinions and a reception, in the context of the visit to Mauritius of the ocean research vessel Hakuho Maru, which is involved in scientific research in the Indian Ocean by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC). The Prime Minister's Office and other relevant parties were invited to attend.
The research, which will be conducted over a period of about one month, englobes the fields of physical oceanography, biogeochemistry and ecology. It will be conducted within the Exclusive Economic Zone of Mauritius and will involve the participation of Mauritian officials. The results of the research will be shared with Mauritius.
Ambassador KAN hoped the research would contribute to knowledge on the environment and climate change in the Indian Ocean, in line with Japan's 'Free and Open Indo-Pacific' (FOIP) Policy. He also wished the Hakuho Maru a safe voyage and spoke of the good relationship between Japan and Mauritius.
