Site Visit to the Sugar Industry of Mauritius
2024/10/18

On 18 October, Ambassador KAN visited the Omnicane Sugar Factory.
Since the middle of the 19th century, the sugar industry has flourished as the main industry in Mauritius. Today, the country is diversifying its sugarcane-based product offerings, including rum, ethanol and high value-added sugar products.
In addition, Omnicane is also engaged in biomass power generation, which effectively uses waste and reduces the burden on the global environment.
During the visit, Ambassador KAN exchanged views with the company's CEO, Jacques Marrier d'Unienville, and other executives on a wide range of topics, including the current situation and future of Mauritius' sugar and energy industries, as well as measures to combat global warming.
