This year, Embassy of Japan planned a series of events called “GOKAN (Five Senses) JAPAN” to allow participants to experience Japanese culture through the five senses of sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing. Our first event, “Mochi,” was attended by 60 participants.

The participants watched the movie “Mochi” directed by Mayumi Komatsu, which was released in 2020, and then tasted five popular traditional “Mochi” recipes, served with cold Green Tea.

Ambassador Kan stated that he hopes to deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries through Japanese cultural exchanges like this “Mochi Event”.

Participants also had the opportunity to experience Japanese culture through all five senses with a demonstration and hands-on experience of Mochitsuki (Mochi pounding).
