5th Japan Karate Association (JKA) International Ambassador of Japan Cup

On December 15, 2024, Japan Karate Association (JKA) Mauritius organized the 5th JKA International Ambassador of Japan cup with the support of the Embassy of Japan in Mauritius. This tournament was held at the Côte d’Or Multisport Centre, Moka and had featured 150 participants, boys and girls. The categories of competition comprised of kata and kumite.
The Hon. Darmarajen NAGALINGUM, Minister of Youth and Sports gave a short address, thanking JKA Mauritius and the Embassy of Japan in Mauritius for organizing the event, which he believes to be a platform to build life relationships, inspiring values such as respect and fair play to the participants.
The Ambassador of Japan in Mauritius, His Excellency KAN Masahiro (who had been a practitioner of karate since his university days, in which he held the First Dan (black belt)) also made a short speech, assuring the audience of the values of discipline, patience and confidence inherent to the martial arts. His Excellency KAN Masahiro also thanked the JKA Mauritius for helping to promote Japanese culture and strengthening the ties between Japan and Mauritius. The Shihan OKUMA Koichiro, Chief Instructor from the JKA HQ in Tokyo and Dr Didier SAMFAT, President of the Japan Karate Association Mauritius (JKA Mauritius) conducted the tournament. The Honorable Dhaneshwar DAMRY, Junior Minister of Finance and the Honorable Govinden VENKATASAMI, Deputy Chief Government Whip were also present for the occasion.
The Hon. The Ambassador of Japan also made it a point to watch, as much as possible, the kata and kumite performances of the young participants.
