Courtesy call on His Excellency Gokhool, President of the Republic of Mauritius

On December 23, Ambassador KAN paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Gokhool, the President of the Republic of Mauritius. Ambassador KAN confirmed that Mauritius shares common values with Japan, such as democracy and the rule of law and is an important partner for Japan in promoting a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" (FOIP) policy. The two sides confirmed to work closely together in the current complex international situation. They also shared the view that Mauritius occupies a strategic location as a gateway for investment into Africa and confirmed the importance of further promoting the strong friendly relationship between the two countries.
Furthermore, Ambassador KAN and President Gokhool exchanged views on cooperation to build an inclusive society, including support for the socially vulnerable, and on a wide range of other fields including tourism, people-to-people exchanges and economic exchanges. In particular, they agreed to cooperate to further deepen the bilateral relationship between the two countries, as Japan hosts the Osaka-Kansai Expo and TICAD 9 (Yokohama) in 2025.
