2025 His Majesty the Emperor’s Birthday Reception

On 13th February 2025, the National Day Reception was held at the residence of the Ambassador, to celebrate the 65th Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor.
On this occasion, Mr. KAN Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to Mauritius, received H.E. Mr Dharambeer GOKHOOL, President of the Republic of Mauritius, H.E. Mr Jean Yvan Robert HUNGLEY, Vice President, the Hon. Mr Paul Raymond BÉRENGER, Acting Prime Minister, the Hon. Dhananjay RAMFUL, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Cabinet Ministers and Members of Parliament, Heads of the diplomatic missions and other distinguished guests from various sectors including the business communities.
In his remarks, the Ambassador expressed his heartfelt wishes to His Majesty the Emperor on his 65th birthday. He also wished the prosperity of both countries and happiness of their people. Furthermore, looking back over the past year, Ambassador KAN stated that many cooperation projects have been achieved, including efforts towards the opening of the Mauritian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan's economic cooperation with Mauritius, including JICA's technical cooperation, and the hosting of cultural events. Furthermore, he expressed his hope that, as the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 is held soon and Mauritius participates in the event, many Mauritian people and companies will visit Japan. He also stated his determination to work towards further deepening the bilateral relationship in the run up to TICAD 9 to be held in August 2025.
In addition, Ambassador KAN sang a Japanese song "Kojo no Tsuki" (The Moon over the Ruined Castle), which was performed at the award ceremony in Oslo, Norway, in honour of the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Hidankyo) receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2024. The song was accompanied by the First Secretary Ms NAKAMURA Wakana on piano. The event also featured a sushi demonstration by Chef YOSHIMURA, sake and Japanese whiskey tastings, a video projection of Japan's tourist attractions, and an exhibition introducing Japanese culture such as Ikebana (Japanese art of flower arrangement) and Hina-Ningyo (dolls which depict the imperial court of Japan). The guests enjoyed the tasting of Japanese sake (rice wine) and whisky. Furthermore, Japanese companies introduced their activities.
