On February 22, 2025, Embassy of Japan held the third GOKAN JAPAN event at the Embassy Event Hall. “GOKAN (five senses) JAPAN” is this year's series of events designed to allow guests to experience Japanese culture through the five senses: sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing. The third event, "Tofu", was attended by approximately 50 guests.

After a presentation touching on the history of Tofu and the background of the spread of Tofu cuisine to the common people during the Edo period, guests experienced Tofu-making by mixing Nigari (seawater magnesium chloride) and warm soy milk. They also tasted Tofu Dengaku, Tofu steak, and Tofu donuts, and compared both traditional and modern recipes. Finally, they watched the heartwarming movie “Takano Tofu” directed by Mitsuhiro Mihara, which was released in 2023.
