The 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) and Japan-Mauritius Summit Meeting

The 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) was held in Yokohama, Japan, from August 20 to 22, and the Mauritian delegation led by Dr. the Hon. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, attended the conference. TICAD, the Tokyo International Conference on African Development, is an international conference focused on African development. It has been led by the Japanese government since 1993 and co-hosted by the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and the African Union Commission (AUC). 49 African countries, including Mauritius, participated in TICAD 9.
On August 22, our Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba held a summit meeting with Dr. the Hon. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the realization of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), further strengthening the cooperative relationship between Japan and Mauritius, and the opening of a Mauritius’s Embassy in Japan. Furthermore, the two leaders confirmed that they would work together to address various challenges in the international arena, such as the United Nations Security Council reform.
Ambassador Masahiro Kan exchanged views with Japanese and Mauritian business representatives at the exhibition booth of the TICAD Business Expo & Conference hosted by JETRO, and also attended the Japan-Mauritius Summit Meeting. The summit meeting was a meaningful one that will lead to further strengthening and promoting relations between the two countries.
