2025/10/7

On 7 October 2025, a handover ceremony for the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project(GGP) was held in Port Louis in the presence of H.E.KAN Masahiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Mr Ellayah, President of the Association Pour Personnes En Larmes(APPEL), were among the many attendees.
According to a survey on homelessness conducted by the Mauritian government, approximately 60% of the nation's homeless population are unable to earn sufficient income to become self-sufficient and have not managed to escape homelessness. In response to this situation, the APPEL established the “ARCH Vocational Training Centre” in 2018 to provide free vocational training, aiming to help homeless individuals secure stable employment and overcome the challenge of residents returning to life on the streets.
Under “The project for the Provision of Equipment for the ARCH Training Center”, with financial assistance of €52,028, new equipment (24 items) has been procured for the center’s pastry and cooking, hairdressing, wood and metalworks curriculum. This will enhance the provision of high-quality vocational training and practical skills, thereby expanding future employment opportunities for beneficiaries supported by the APPEL.
