The “Japanese Film Festival – Oct 25” was held on the 12th of October at the Hennessy Park Hotel in Trianon with the projection of two movies: “The Zen Diary” and “A Letter to Momo”.
The movies presented formed part of the Japanese Film Festival Online theatre program by the Japan Foundation. His Excellency KAN Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to Mauritius evoked in his speech the importance of reflecting on the meaning of life and also how life can be improved by harmonizing with nature, as portrayed in “The Zen Diary”.
In another speech before the animation fantasy movie “A Letter to Momo”, Ambassador KAN interacted with the audience about the Mauritian version of the “yokai” – the Japanese goblins that were a central part of the film.
The “Japanese Film Festival – Oct 25” was held in partnership with the Hennessy Park Hotel. The General Manager of the hotel, Mr. Jean-Francois Richard celebrated the occasion of a renewed partnership with the Embassy of Japan.
After each movie, dora-yaki (pancake) and matcha ice cream, as Japanese sweets, were served. The audience felt Japan by using “Gokan”, i.e, “five senses” throughout the whole program of this Japanese Film Festival.
