The University of Mascareignes Acts for the Preservation of Marine Ecosystems

2025/11/13
On 13 November, Ambassador Kan attended the workshop “Blue Policy Strategy Forum: Science to Policy” hosted by the University of Mascarenes. This workshop, held in the presence of Dr. Arvin Boolell, Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy, and Fisheries, aimed to strengthen the connection between scientific research and public policy on marine sustainability.
This initiative, supported by the MOL Charitable Trust (MCT), established by the Japanese company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, maps the distribution of seagrass beds in Mauritius, assesses their carbon storage potential, and contributes to the environmental protection of the island nation.
Japan and Mauritius, both island nations, face unique challenges arising from the impacts of climate change. Preserving coastal ecosystems and formulating concrete plans based on scientific evidence play an essential role in ensuring effective marine conservation.
