On 25 January 2026, Mr.  KAN, Ambassador of Japan to Mauritius, attended the Kagami Biraki ceremony organized by the Red Tiger and Shobukan Karate School at the Shobukan dojo in Le Bouchon.
During the ceremony, a commemorative tree planting and the unveiling of a commemorative plate were conducted. In addition, a karate demonstration was performed by students under the founding master, Mr. Kooram Venkamah, followed by the awarding of black belts to those who had been promoted.
At the ceremony, Mr. Kiran Foolchand, President and Master of the Red Tiger and Shobukan Karate School, expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for his attendance and continued support. Ambassador Kan delivered a speech, highlighting the core values of karate and its role in character development, commending the students for their dedication, and reaffirming his intention to continue supporting the development of karate in Mauritius.
Following the speeches, the Ambassador was invited by Mr. Venkamah to take part in the Kagami Biraki, a traditional Japanese ceremony held in January to mark the first practice of the New Year in martial arts dojos. The opening of kagami mochi symbolizes renewal, harmony, good fortune, and a shared commitment to discipline, perseverance, and self-improvement.
