Opening remarks by Ambassador Kan
On 18th February, the Embassy organized a press tour for Mauritian media at Albion Fisheries Research Centre, attended by 10 journalists and photographers from 6 media companies, Ambassador KAN and Mrs. Koonjul, Director of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries. The purpose of the press tour was to increase media coverage opportunities of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) and to strengthen the dissemination of information to the people of Mauritius.

Since the construction of the Albion Fisheries Research Centre through a grant aid in 1980, Japan has long contributed to the promotion of blue economy in Mauritius through the Centre’s expansion and related technical cooperation. During this press tour, the press learned of JICA’s cooperation in blue economy, the role of the Centre and the activities of the ongoing technical cooperation “The Project for the development of Integrated Coastal Ecosystem Management System” through the presentations by JICA experts and the Director of the Albion Fisheries Research Centre. The presentation was then followed by a visit to the Laboratory Division, Marine Science Division, breeding ponds and the Exhibition Centre that was renovated as part of the technical cooperation for environmental education.

After the press tour, the invited press issued articles on newspaper, internet and TV pogrammes, which helped the Mauritian people to deepen their understandings on Japan’s ODA.
