Shotokan karate and kendo Republic cup 2026

On the 14th of June, 2026, Mr. KAN Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Mauritius attended the Shotokan karate and kendo Republic cup 2026 held by the Shotokan Martial Arts Federation (SMAF) and Kendo Federation Mauritius (KFM) at the Hindu House in Cassis, Port-Louis. Ambassador Kan made a speech to encourage the martial art practitioners, aged as from 7 years old wishing them the best in their competition of kata and kumite.
The Ambassador also highlighted the importance given to the principles and values of kendo as well as karate. This year, the kendo federation also received supports from Mr. Nakashima, new chef of the Embassy of Japan, who is also a 3rd Dan of kendo and acted as jury at the competition. The chef had also prepared “onigiri”, the famous Japanese rice ball which was very much appreciated by the athletes and the public.
In his speech, the president of the Shotokan Martial Arts Federation (SMAF) and Kendo Federation Mauritius (KFM), Mr. Rishi Bundhoo, expressed gratitude for the Ambassador’s participation and explained that his presence was an important motivation for this Federation and their members.
