Awarding of the Head of Mission’s Commendation

On June 26, Ambassador Kan presented Ambassador’s Commendation to Ms. Jean-Louis Midori, who has served for many years in the Consular and Security Section of the Embassy of Japan in Mauritius and has continued to hold memorial services for Japanese victims of an airplane accident off the coast of Mauritius.
Ms. Midori has been laying flowers at the memorial monument every November since the 13th anniversary of the tragedy, in memory of the 47 Japanese nationals who lost their lives in the crash of South African Airways Flight 295 on November 28, 1987. Her dedication began when she supported bereaved families who traveled from Japan to Mauritius for a memorial service, which inspired her with the desire to "offer prayers on behalf of those who are unable to make the long journey to Mauritius."
Furthermore, Ms. Midori has long been engaged in the tourism industry in Mauritius, contributing to the promotion of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
At the commendation ceremony, Ambassador Kan expressed his deep respect and sincere gratitude for Ms. Midori's many years of dedicated activities and invaluable contributions.
