Launch of the Japan Traditional Karate Mauritius association

On 22nd of August 2026, Mr. KAN Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Mauritius, attended the launching event of the Japan Traditional Karate (JTK) Mauritius. This ceremony was held at the Voila hotel in Bagatelle in the presence of the Honourable Deven Nagalingum, Minister of Youth and Sports and Honourable Tony Apollon, Junior Minister of Youth and Sports.
In his remarks, Ambassador KAN welcomed the establishment of Japan Traditional Karate in Mauritius. He commended the team of martial artists which worked hard for the setting up of the association in Mauritius. Ambassador Kan also shared the value of Karate as contributing to promote values such as discipline, respect, perseverance, dedication, and self-control.
In his speech, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Deven Nagalingum noted a rising interest of youth and parents for martial arts. He wished to confirm the supportive interest of the Prime Minister, Navin Ramgoolam for the youth and he asked the public to help him build a good nation for the future generations.
The Chairperson of the JTK Mauritius, Mr. Jimmy Chung Tick Kan, made a short speech and proceeded to the launch of the association. Messages from Yuko Takahashi, Chairperson, and Masahiko Tanaka, Supreme Master, of Japan Traditional Karate Association (JTK) were also read during the event.
