On 19 October 2026, Ambassador Kan received a courtesy call from Dr. Daehaeng Kim, Director of the IMF's Africa Training Institute (ATI) and AFRITAC South. During the meeting, Dr. Kim expressed his appreciation for the training and capacity development programs supported through the Government of Japan and provided an overview of the activities of ATI and AFRITAC South.

ATI, based in Mauritius, provides training for government and central bank officials from across Africa. AFRITAC South, meanwhile, supports 13 countries in Southern Africa through technical assistance and capacity development in areas such as public financial management and monetary policy. By hosting both institutions, Mauritius serves as an important IMF hub for capacity development and human resource development in Africa.

The Government of Japan, through the Ministry of Finance, contributes funding to the IMF's capacity development initiatives, supporting the strengthening of economic and fiscal management, institutional development, and human resource development across African countries. The two sides also exchanged a wide range of views, including Japan's support for these efforts and their impact across the African region.
